21 Miles
February 21st, 2004, by Rich.
My first twenty mile run!
This was going to be a seventeen-miler, but like many of the club runs, it just kept growing. My measurement of this one is a little haphazard because after Southwick we ran down several country paths which aren’t on the map, but I’ve tried to err towards under-estimation.
The last three miles were very, very difficult. I think the cold (2°C) and the fact that I’d finished my 0.5L of water didn’t help.
So thank you sponsors, you got me through that bit, there was a steep hill at mile 19 which you got me over.

As for how it feels, well, mild elation with aches and pains. Several hours, a bit of stretching and a bath later and my legs feel much the same as they did ten weeks ago after “normal” club nights doing 7 miles. So the training is working.
Today I can also present a small graph showing the weekly mileage in a more easy to digest format - I’ll update this weekly so that it provides a good long term record of what it takes to get round in whatever time I do.
