GKR: Taking the Warm Up

June 23rd, 2005, by Rich, in GKR.

Tuesday’s Karate was interesting. When we entered the Dojo and talked to Sensei John he mentioned that he would be picking someone “at random” to lead the warm-up session. He usually gets some of the orange belts out the front to demonstrate techniques, and has been getting Tony (who’s currently Orange belt and training to be a Sempai out to do the warm up on occasion. Starting GKR

April 26th, 2005, by Rich, in GKR.

The order day a fella came round the house asking if we’d be intersted in learning about Karate. With the London Marathon behind us, and having done a fair bit of boxing, we thought it might be good to do a different style of training. More…

beach volleyball; a british twist

October 8th, 2004, by Rich, in Nice Things, Olympics.

For me, the sydney 2000 olympics beach volleyball was overshadowed by the constant references to Bondi Beach, as though somehow it was the most desirable place on earth. Pardon my skepticism but Bondi’s a tourist trap; a parody; it’s long way from paradise. More…

Last weekend we took part in the Clarendon Way Relay Marathon - this was a bit diffferent to the norm in that it was a mostly off road event, with lots of hills. The event is run as a marathon, a half marathon, and a relay marathon where four people each take on a leg of the 26 miles. More…

Saturday saw us fly up to newcastle for the 2004 Great North Run. This is the third time we had entered, but the first that we’d done it as a race, rather than a sponsored fun run More…

The New Forest Half Marathon

September 19th, 2004, by Rich, in Running.

Today was the new forest half marathon. a most enjoyable race and far smaller than either the great north run or the london marathon. The race course is, as one might expect, mostly through the new forest on roads which are either closed, or significantly marshalled by the local police and race officials. More…

In April 2004 we ran the 2004 Flora London Marathon to rise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC). This is what happened on the day. More…

The day before the London Marathon

April 17th, 2004, by Rich, in Distance Training.

We had fun at lunchtime watching the bidding war for the ball. After nine days it’s price had risen to £82; then this morning it crept over the £100 mark. As the close approached we were refreshing the browser constantly in the hope that it would go up a few more quid in the last minutes. The auction was due to end at 12:03 and at 11:41 it leapt up to £115, which pleased us no end. More…
