Dearest friends, family & idle passers by, the news about the washing machine is good.
Steve the Dyson engineer arrived on schedule and gave it a thorough once over. For those not familiar with the Dyson customer service policy, it’s pretty cool. If the machine is out of it’s two year warranty period, the cost of a service is fixed at £55 for a vacuum or £85 for a washing machine - this includes all parts.
What’s less commonly known is that Dyson are constantly improving the design of their machines, so during a service call it’s not uncommon for components to be upgraded.
So, Steve not only cleared the blockage (which wasn’t a coin it was sludge), he also upgraded the soap dispenser, the lock, the coin trap, the filter, and the control software; and he’ll be back next week to replace the front panel, which has a small chip out of it. He even took this photo of the inside of our CR-01 and emailed it to me (after I expressed regret at not having a digital camera with which to take such a picture).
Now, you might think £85 for this kind of service is pretty darn good. I certainly do. So you can perhaps imagine my mild astonishment when Steve told me that because (a) the sludge build up was not something we could have avoided and (b) Dyson would have come to see me about the free upgrades soon anyway… the whole service was free.
So, a message to everyone at Dyson - you rock - have a nice weekend.

I agree that Dyson engineers give very good service. I have a CR01 washing machine and a DC07 hoover. The other day the Washing machine decided it didn’t want to believe the inner door was shut so I called the Dyson help line who told me my machine needed an engineer visit but was out of it’s 2yr manufacturers warranty period, actually just gone past it’s 3rd year . So I rang Domestic and General and they offered me their kitchen plan which allowed any 3 named devices to be covered for 9.99 /month, 1st payment next month, so I took it out there and then.
I called Dyson back with the D&G policy number and job code and the engineer came 2 days later and spent 2 hrs replacing the power board and the control board and the door sensor and finally got it all working again, which was what I expected.
When I mentioned that I also had a Dyson hoover with a crack in the bottom hose, he said he had a spare one of them in his van and would swap it for me, and he very kindly did, for free, which was more than I expected. But then when he turned it on to test it again he listened to the motor and thought it sounded a bit ropy, which it did and so he said, “I’ll swap that out for a new motor if you like!” which he did in under 5 mins! although it looked like it would have taken me a week!
So that was definitely better service than I expected!
Well done Dyson.
Considering I have 14 days to cancel my Extended Warranty Kitchen Plan policy with D&G, and haven’t actually paid a penny to anybody yet, I reckon I am “quids in” at the moment.
Do you think I should quit while I’m ahead ?

Hi Michelle,
Your best bet is to give Dyson a call (08706 002701) - the maximum it’ll set you back is £85, but it might come in cheaper than that if your machine hasn’t been upgraded to the current spec (based on what happened to us).
The thing that springs to mind about your current problem is that the machine won’t open if it has water in it, so have you manually drained the machine (via the coin trap) and ensured there is no gunk that’s blocking the entrance and exit from the trap?

Hi Michelle please call our helpline…
chances are that if the fault has not been caused by yourself (which it probably hasn’t) then the repair will more than likely be free of charge.
Its best to try the release lever in both directions and while the machine is switched OFF, dependant on the age of the machines depends which way to turn the release lever so try it both ways; also press and hold cancel to get it to completely empty before trying this…
hope this helps…
cheers steve (dyson engineer)

Hey you guys - does Dyson hypnotize his customers or what? I have had Zanussi products for years. I can’t tell you about how good the repair men are - I’ve never needed to call them out. As for pets, we wash our cat’s igloo in it regularly with no problem at all. Get real. Dyson is charging enormous sums of money to gullible folks like you when you could get better products much cheaper. Did you know that Henry ALWAYS outperforms the Dyson vacuum cleaner in tests and users can get rid of the dust in a handy little bag.
