Dearest friends, family & idle passers by, the news about the washing machine is good.
Steve the Dyson engineer arrived on schedule and gave it a thorough once over. For those not familiar with the Dyson customer service policy, it’s pretty cool. If the machine is out of it’s two year warranty period, the cost of a service is fixed at £55 for a vacuum or £85 for a washing machine - this includes all parts.
What’s less commonly known is that Dyson are constantly improving the design of their machines, so during a service call it’s not uncommon for components to be upgraded.
So, Steve not only cleared the blockage (which wasn’t a coin it was sludge), he also upgraded the soap dispenser, the lock, the coin trap, the filter, and the control software; and he’ll be back next week to replace the front panel, which has a small chip out of it. He even took this photo of the inside of our CR-01 and emailed it to me (after I expressed regret at not having a digital camera with which to take such a picture).
Now, you might think £85 for this kind of service is pretty darn good. I certainly do. So you can perhaps imagine my mild astonishment when Steve told me that because (a) the sludge build up was not something we could have avoided and (b) Dyson would have come to see me about the free upgrades soon anyway… the whole service was free.
So, a message to everyone at Dyson - you rock - have a nice weekend.

I really hope our CR01 will last another 5 years. We have moved 2 times now and are now definately out of reach of any Dyson engineer. Fortunately I am quite handy. I managed to get to pump out and cleaned it internally, re-installed it, removed the screws for the outer door hinge (replaced once the item came in) put the front, top and rear back on and it’s running… It’s fabulous to see what’s inside, great job Dyson ! PLEASE make a new model with less plastic parts !
CR01 expensive? Not if you see how fast the laundry is done :-)
And yes the vacuum (DC04) is fabulous, I tried even sawdust once, clogged but no problem once the container was emptied. Maybe Dyson knows how to make the best of the plastic world we live in?

DYSON WASHING MACHINES are a heap of crap.Mine has had 2 drums and various other repairs, and its only 3 years old.I remember DYSON boasting that they were engineered for twenty years. They should be prosecuted under the trade descriptions act,As for steve the dyson engineer he must be brainwashed by the company.

hello i have a question for any dyson engineers who might be passing by and read this…
i bought a dyson washing machine that was in need of some tlc and when i got it home and got stuck in there were more things needing done than what was said at the time.
my question is this if i call dyson and they send a engineer out to look at the machine will they replace the powerboard, display panel, electronic door switch, and i think one of the motors is also shot and it does seem like a lot but and would prob be better just to buy another machine but if they will replace all this stuff well then it has to be worth paying 95bux to have it done.
( hopefully a engineer out there could answer this for me )

Dyson may rock but their customer service is pathetic. I bought a dyson upright online - I know they are good because I have a very old one which has been good but which needs replacing. The site promised to deliver within a few days and give me details about having my old machine recycled at the same time. The money, of course, was taken from my credit card immediately.
The delivery company is City Link and they tried to deliver while we were at work, leaving a card. I can collect the parcel from their depot, 30 miles away as long as it is before 12pm on a Saturday. They don’t deliver on a Saturday unless requested by the vendor. They deliver up to 5.30pm weekdays but can’t arrrange delivery between 5 - 5.30 as I asked, only sometime that day! Not a lot of use to a working household.
I contacted Dyson by email 2 days running but as yet (3 days later) no reply. I phoned twice, the first time they suggested I get the delivery at work - take my old vacuum to work to be picked up? In a small primary school? The second call was to see if they could instruct City Link to deliver on a Saturday - I was told that Saturday deliveries are against company policy!! Ha ha. So I decided to cancel my order. I was told it would take up to 28 days to refund my card!!! Eventually they offered to send my details as an urgent case to their finance department but no-one will be there until Monday - another 3 days!!! No guarantee that I will get my money back on Monday.
So Dyson may have great products but (literally) can’t deliver. Their Finance Department can take my money 24/7 but takes up to 28 days to refund. Presumably they have to send someone off on a rusty bicycle to withdraw the cash, carry it back to the office and then send it in a letter, 2nd class via Patagonia.
Dyson sucks.
