Google has this week announced a labs project called Google Trends, a rather nice extension to the monthly search roundup that is Google Zeitgeist. Trends lets you see how popular a particular search term has been over time, and then just for fun, you can compare the popularity of other search terms over the same period.
For example: comparing searches for slashdot and digg using this search suggests that digg has seen a strong and steads increase in interest since it’s launch.
…or perhaps you’re interested to compare the popularity of WordPress with Movable Type…
…or maybe Firefox versus Internet Explorer…
…or anything else you’d care to think up.
With my tongue only slightly in cheek, I predict that Google will no doubt follow this with Google-Trends-Zeitgeist: a monthly roundup of the most popular Google Trends comparisons.
