Dear Lesley,

At dinner this evening with my parents, Jim and Vera Gowans, we were chatting about our happy days in Swansea in the 1950s and 60s. They used to have super parties, and they recalled their dear friends Harry and Edna Breeze, whom I could also clearly remember, both at our home and theirs in Killay. My father, who also worked for Wales Gas and served in the RAF, mentioned that Harry was made an MBE. Intrigued, I checked on the internet and came across this site. It was amazing to hear Harry's voice again!

With very fond memories and best wishes,

Glyn Gowans

Waiting with baited breath!
At a time when the precious North Sea gas has all but run out and everything has changed,(we drive past the former site of the E.M.Edwards works every week), it is lovely to hear from somebody who remembers my father Harry Breeze, MBE, DFC (Rich's grandfather)

Wow what can I say as a gas man who worked with one of the best ( my old boss) for six years, my wife who also worked on the same department sent me this web site, Its a book what we all did from the start to the end of six years on wales gas conversion department. Not just the gas side but the parts that make you smile,I would be more than pleased to tell of the times we all had as we moved from town to town in all of wales.

Despite the date of this posting, I can confirm that its contents are a true record of Harry Breeze's early career.
He went on to pipeline Wales for North Sea Gas, and later converted all homes in Wales to receive it... and was awarded an MBE for his efforts

The first pic of Dad is the one I had beside my bed all through the war. I was so proud of him
The second was taken in 1945, just after he was awarded his DFC... notice the medal ribbon with the diagonal (purple & white) stripes.
Thanks for posting this, Rich

[...] Fortunately my Dad was a good DIY man (even before DIY had been invented) and he had shored up the space under the stairs with planks of wood in anticipation of a visit from Mr Hitler or some of his emissaries. At that time Dad was working for the Gas Board and therefore in a reserved occupation, so instead of going off to war as he really wanted to, he did his work and then was in the Home Guard in his spare time.
