Intrepid Michael: Traveller of Time and Space

Does anybody have a digital copy of the (ahem) arthouse classic “Intrepid Michael: Traveller of Time and Space”?

Intrepid Michael was filmed in and around Swansea sometime around 1990 – locations that I can recall included a house in Woodcote, the common wasteland in Dunvant valley, and the exterior of a house (and it’s garage) in the Hendrefoilan estate.

I recall the garage because my role called for me to jump backwards from it; and I recall sitting on the waste ground drinking tea.

Other players included Adam J. Barwick (in the lead role) and C.M. Bristow who was also in the tea drinking scene, operating a large hourglass.

In the same breath I should also ask if anyoen has a copy of “Dunvant is Boring”, and any of it’s sequels, which included challenging and labour intensive scenes such as stop-motion paddling along Dunvant railway line.

C. Michael Bristow (the director) has kindly provided a link to Dunvant is Boring.

Memory fades but that’s definitely me aged about 20, with the paddle, and I think on the seat by the pond which was filmed in the old Dunvant Brickworks.

I have a copy of “Intrepid Michael – Traveller of Time and Space: Part II” in the loft at home. This was the first film produced and contains the “giant hourglass” scene. It’s running time is around forty minutes. The second film, “Intrepid Michael – Traveller of Time and Space: Part I” runs for around ninety minutes and contains the “Hendrefoilan Garage Jump” scene (The garage belonged to the Dyer family) as well as a car chase, specially written music, costumes and a genuine professional actress (out of work). It also featured some scenes shot on location in Guildford (both Michael films are set in Guildford). As far as I’m aware, there are no surviving copies of this second film. A documentary, “The Making of Michael”, was also produced, based on unused rushes from the second film. This too, no longer exists – it’s VHS cassette having been used by other family members for recording episodes of “Neighbours”.

If I find the time, I will attempt to get the first film into iMovie (both VHS tape and VCR need to be fetched from the loft to do this) and give it a digital cleanup – by which time it will probably be about five minutes long and easily uploadable.

It so happens that I talked to the elusive auteur and creative force behind ‘Michael’ while sitting on a bench outside the British Library a few weeks ago. He has gone to ground somewhere near Amersham. I am on the trail.
