Is anyone at Apple listening? This is the most pointless message I’ve ever encountered and I’ve been in computing since 1968!

Same thing here. Most annoying when driving through outback country with navigation software running. And you HAVE to dismiss the message every blimmin’ time, as the navigator is overridden by this message.
I do not need this message, because there is nothing I can do anyway. So I do not want this message to interrupt otherwise well running programs.

Simple to fix and works for most user I support –

IOS4 – (Iphone 4 and upgraded earlier models)

Goto –

- Settings
- General
- Reset (scroll down to find it)
- Reset Network Settings.

The iPhone will restart.

You will need to add the security details again for all your wireless networks to connect to wireless.

No need to select automatic.

And for all those who say just go to automatic that’s not a fix and there are millions of users who CANNOT use automatic ( live close to a boarder and would get high roaming charges if they attached to a foreign roaming partner etc)

Changing it to “automatic” rather than manual selection worked. I recommend that if you are you going to be in a place where you already know is a dead zone, put ur phone in “Airplane Mode.” This will prevent it from searching for a network, and thus, save your battery life which will otherwise be flooded the whole time you are in that dead zone as it is trying to find service. Other than that, Im back in happy land with the iphone

I bought a brand new som free IPhone 4. I have a contract O2 sim. I live in a poor signal area and am sick of this useless “network lost” popup. My network is set on Automatic and will not let me change to manual. I have disabled notifications but this pointless piece of nonsense is driving me nuts, I’m starting to hate this piece of crap. P.s my iPhone is the only phone that completley looses the signal in my house All other phones keep at least 1-2 bars and work fine. I wish apple would make a good phone to go with the excellent unit.

Sam’s suggestion worked perfect for me… I set the network to “Automatic” and voila! no more annoying popups about the signal.

I have a locked iphone 3g to O2-UK.
I now live in Bulgaria. I have a new O2 sim inserted but there is no signal. I can only select Automatic, but it does not find any bulgarian carriers. What to do?

switching to automatic fixed it for me and it’ll work for you.
Wait until your in a strong signal area-options-carrier-automatic.
Message gone.
Apple is very user friendly but restricted, jailbreak and you’ll fall in love with your phone again!

Problem fixed! Both my wife and myself have an iPhone and I was the only one getting this really annoying message. I simply needed to set the carrier to automatic instead of selecting my phone network provider. Now, remember that seeing the Automatic setting being displayed is not enough, you need to check it. No more lost network since then

Hi to everyone!
I’m on Spain and I own the 3GS iPhone.
This message start to apears in my vacations
in Greece. I don’t know exactly what setting (if any)
was changed for this foreign operator.

I do some testing with a friend that has the same phone.
We drive outside the city, to find “dead” signal spots.
My phone showed the error message 4 times, his phone: none.

I would try a complete restore, but I believe that reload the
network operator configuration file would be better. Anyone know how
to to that?

… which is not surprising considering that the freerunner is a lot older and cheaper than the iPhone which is largely subsidised by the phone companies (if it weren’t then the $400 price tag would be way higher – it’s the economy of scale that brings the price down). I’ll be very interested to know how the N900 stacks up, which is what Chris tried next.

Voila, following my previous comment I solve the problem once and for all

This problem was following me from one iPhone to a new iPhone and with different sim cards.

So for those of you who’s problem was not solved by selecting Automatic Network selection or a Specific Network >>

I did a full restore of my iPhone via iTunes and after that I DID NOT SYNC it with my previously backed up profile. I created a new one.

I did of course lose my data but at least the problem is solved. No more message when the network is lost, better use of the battery and better network reception!

It was worth it !
