Just finished, doing a full re-build on my cr01 (which I just saved from the tip in time). And it works perfectly and does wash clothes to a far higher standard than my old Miele or any other machine for that matter. It takes quite a bit of effort to dismantle and that big slotted nut on the back is a pig to remove (had to borrow a tool from a fellow Dyson wise man to undo it). But once that's done, pretty smooth sailing, only those torx bolts around the edge are a pain, lots of nut release, leave for 15 mins and then TIGHTEN not loosen one at a time. This gives you a bit of leeway to then start to undo them, managed to undo all of mine in the end. The casing is then also stuck to the spider and reassess, but with more release spray and lots of screw drivers, it is possible to get the spider and the inner drum out. Note you do not need to remove the 3 torx bolts that hold the spider to the inner drum. Then just de-scale everything, clean the yellow slipping ring and put it together. Also note, the bearing is massively over engineered and isn't the normal cause of the drum seizing, just limescale build-up in the slip joint and inner and outer spiders, if your bearing seal is ok, then bearings will also be ok. They do move a bit with the drum removed -but this is normal, they rely on pressure on both sides to keep then straight. So maybe then just huge de-scaling wash, maybe all you need to fix these machines in future.

Just done a full re-build and learnt a great deal in the process,
1.
Outer door locks crack inside and the thread goes, put a bolt, nut and big washer on the end to hold the rear of the switch assy in place -fixed for 5p.
2. Very important - the door switch cable can and will get trapped behind the door switch on assembly. If it does, it will not sit flat and will work intermittently, you then push the door lock in too much and damaging it further. Make sure the cable is completely free from the switch as you tighten the screws (or nut and bolts) onto the front casing.
3. Risky-ish, remove the door lock tab from the clear out door assy and just push that in the lock assy and leave the door free. If anything then happens the machine is easy to dismantle, ps the backup strip thing from the lock never works well anyway.
4 . Give the machine a massive v hot descaling run (loads of calgon etc) wash or washes before going any further, the jamming drum is ONLY caused by silt and lime-scale build-up -not bearings etc. A good washout maybe all it needs.
5. On drum disassembly the torx bolts holding the drum inner and outer spiders are tight and seized in, put some very good nut release one or two at a time -and leave them for 15 mins then then TIGHTEN them up, they will will move a few degrees, giving you space to then undo them, adding lots of nut release as you go -carefully.

If you get 20 washes out of it it's cheaper and more convenient than a launderette. Good luck!

Thinking of buying a CR02 second hand for £100.00, today, to replace dying Bosch. Will I be doing the right thing? It's had two owners and I don't know how frequently it was used. I'd value your comments!

Thanks again Rick, got the drum out of the tub. On closer inspection I suspect the inner bearing is worn, as the inner drum doesn't seem to sit straight :(

I am unable to remove the spider from the back of the drum. The torx bolts won't budge, and the heads just sheer off. I've tried all the usual heating, WD40 and shocking techniques. The bolts seem very soft.

Alas, it seems I'm going to have to scrap this machine :(

Hi I searched google for ways to repair the drum in our CR01 machine. We realised that the machine has got louder over the last six months but did not bother doing anything about it until the water pump stopped working. The engineer came out and fully serviced the machine. He then drained it and removed the clothes to discover the drum had had it hence the noise of the machine getting louder. Since owning this machine we have only ever had an engineer out once who replaced the pump and door hinge and then gave the machine a software upgrade for free even though we had had the machine over twelve months. He also ordered a replacement part for the soap tray as said it was the old type even though there was nothing wrong with the one in it. The upshot is we now have a working machine again with a load of new parts in it, with a drum with months to go. However on the plus side he did not charge us a penny. So in short I am only dissapointed that they are not available to buy new anymore as the customer service I have received has been second to non. Oh and nearly forgot to say our machine has done over 12000 loads, and the engineer said this was the highest he had ever come across.

Thanks Rick, I eventually figured that out, oops!

So gearbox off, I'm now stuck at 2 groove nuts on the back of the tub. They look very difficult to remove without a special groove nut tool. Has anyone attempted this, or is this as far as I can reasonably go without special tools?

Hi Ally,

My CR01 was serviced 5 months ago, and both motors replaced, so it's not them!

I ran a 'self clean' 85 degree cycle, to clean the machine out, and ever since it's been fine

Incidentally, I would recommend anyone needing new parts (except drums and gearbox) to have a £99 service, as they replace just about everything else and give you a years guarantee, can't moan at that on a 10 year old washing machine!

It's easy enough to take the back off. I would pop the back panel off and have a sniff around at the end of a cycle to see if you can identify the component. I'm guessing maybe a motor? If so, dead easy to swap and readily available on ebay!

Ok,got the machine stripped down most of the way! I think the bearings are fine, as there is no play in the drum. I think possibly the inner drum is slightly distorted in some way. I think I could source a second hand one, however I'm stuck with the gearbox. How does it come off the back of the drum? Any hints greatly appreciated!

Just bought a second hand CR01 off ebay, sold as "faulty". Drums look like they don't line up correctly as there's a space at certain places where they join. What could the cuase of this be? Apparently, the machine works fine in "duvet" mode that doesn't use contrarotation.
