Phone Spam from Satellite Direct UK

I just got another call from Satellite Direct UK telling me that my Sky warranty needs renewing. Oddly enough, nothing has changed since their last call. We are still registered with the TPS so it’s unlawful for them to phone us and we still don’t have a Sky box, so it’s definitely not out of it’s warranty period, which they again suggested. Satellite Direct UK you are not morons: stop ignoring the TPS.

Update: Looks like we’re not the only recipients of their unwanted sales calls: Longrider (also called twice) points out a host of others.

Update: Satellite Direct UK’s business practices have subsequently been successfully challenged in the High Court by BSkyB.

Update 2008/03/10: Satellite Direct UK are investigated by BBC Watchdog (it’s available on iPlayer for 1 week after broadcast).

Update 2008/07/05: The director of Satellite Direct UK appears to have been charged with fraud and money laundering.

Thought everyone who has had to deal with that awful Satellite Direct (and now I believe its also called Satellite Support Ltd) then you may like to have a read of this:

The Information Commissioner’s Office has required two organisations to sign formal undertakings to stop making unsolicited marketing calls to individuals. … Satellite Direct UK Ltd and Satcover Ltd, both of Hove, East Sussex, were found in breach of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations after making unsolicited marketing calls to individuals using an automated calling system.

As Tracey so appropriately says: “If we weren’t aloud to ring
people the courts wouldn’t have allowed it.”

Does his mean that in light of the stated breach of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations which the ICO has described, that TPS registered telephone users are at last safe from the wiley and dubious cold call sales tactics of Satellite Direct?

    Lets wait and see.

P.S. thanks for the link Charlotte!

Surprise, Surprise my story is exactly the same as in message 178. SATELLITE ASSURED conned me in the same way.

Very defensive when complaint made. This is obviously a tactic that they use and I will be repoting them to Trading Standards.

I have just checked my bank statement and was surprsed to find that Satellite assured had taken out an initial payment of 36.00 by direct debit for insuring my sky box. I have never asked for this and I have cancelled it. When I rang the company, all I got was answering machine. I will await their response to my cancellation request with interest.

Oh wow, wish I had looked at this site before. Never mind, lessons to be learnt I am sure.

Rang on Friday as our Sky Plus box no longer works. Sat on the phone for 30 minutes listening to music, and a further 20 minutes in Key Position One - your call will be answered shortly. Eventually spoke to Chris. He took the details, said that he could not contact an engineer, and would ring me back. I was very surprised when he did and was told that he had left a message for the engineer to ring me. 3pm Friday. Okay, someone has to stay in, sorry son, just the job for you. By 9pm no phone call.

Rang Sat. Sorry our offices are open Monday to Friday 9 til 5.

Rang Mon. Smack on 9am, more music, told I am in key position 1. Key position 1 for 25 minutes. I don’t know the rate for 0845 - I wonder if someone gets money for receiving the call! Spoke to Shaz this time. I asked about the delay - we are very busy after the weekend. When I asked about the delay Friday - sorry can’t explain that! When she spoke to Chris he said that he had left a message. I then spoke some more, found out that the MD was Stuart King (read that somewhere else). Got an 01706 number as MDTV and Satellite Assured use the same telephone centre which is in the Rochdale area. Asked her to try the technician again. Now without putting me on hold, and only hearing her breathing, I find out the technician will be with us today. We’ll see - and I will certainly be letting you know.

Reply to message 196. The 2 addresses that I have for Satellite Assured Ltd, 2nd Floor, Cas-Gwent Chambers, Chepstow, Gwent NP16 6LN. and Satellite Assured Ltd PO Box 249 Bognor Regis, PO22 7ZR. I am currently trying to cancel my agreement with them as I also beleive I was wrongly sold this. When contacted they said that it was a 12 month contract and that they would put it in the hands of debt collecters if remainder not paid. What a nerve!!!!!!
