Suspicious BSkyB Warranty Telesales

We just got a telemarketing call. Regular readers will know we’re registered with the TPS, so such calls are unlawful. The call went like this…

Sam: “Hello, can I speak to Ms Reeves please?”
Me: “Sure, what’s it in connection with?”
Sam: “We notice that your Sky warranty is about to run out and … blah blah blah.”
Me:”Right, so who would be providing the cover?”
Sam: “Oh, Sky Engineers … blah blah blah.”
Me: “Right, so who, which company would be providing the cover?”
Sam: “Satellite Direct. Sky don’t do warranties so they subcontract them to companies such as ours.”
Me: “Right. We don’t have a Sky box.”
Sam: “Oh; must be a system error, we’ve been getting a lot of them today, we get all our names and numbers from Sky.”

I took the guy’s name and the company’s number (08702 402 483) for good measure.

Satellite Direct say they got our number from BSkyB. We do not have, and never have had a contract with BSkyB!

And they called using Emma’s maiden name?

Satellite Direct are Telespammers.

I’ve mentioned their call to the TPS.


Update: Satellite Direct UK’s business practices have subsequently been successfully challenged in the High Court by BSkyB

      To give you half a chance, I should make sure you’re aware that your IP address (your computer’s ID) is recorded and can be used to trace you, so you may be incriminating yourself if you say anything more (and you may have already said too much, so a retraction is probably a good idea at this point).

    I received a call from this company last night – told me my Sky plus box warranty was due to run out – this is the second time I have had a call like this. I went mental at the guy at the other end, asked where I got my details from his response was where do you think?
    I told him on the phone that my account with Sky clearly states that only Sky are to contact me and not a third party Im registered with TPS, and also X directory so where did he get my details from ?? he wouldn’t say. I telephoned Sky and was told that they do not pass details on its against the Data Protection Act – but clearly someone is passing information on to third parties like this.
    I googled the compamy this morning and seems there are a lot of people who have been contacted by this company – even those who no longer have Sky, there are some poor people who even signed up for their warranty!!!
    Piece of advice dont give out any details on the phone – ask them to put it all in writing if you want to take up the offer. But Im not a fan of cold selling, this is the reason why I registered with the TPS and only want Sky to contact me and noone else.
    Some people have received letters – it may be worth contacting the Trading Standards and see if they can do anythinng to get this stopped.

    Satellite & homecare ltd are nothing to do with these companys you are complaining about, Thay offer a good service and are cheaper then most.

    and unlike other companys offer the same callout time if not faster then the leading companys out there.

    If you want to find out about this company please call trating standards, The silly coments made by all you people out there are all gueses, you dont have a clue who it is you are complaining about.

    satellite direct is the problem and all the other companys get tied in with the same brush, beleave me i am an engineer and there are some good companys out there.as i have said you woent find a bad comment about satellite and home care ltd if you ring trading west sussex trading standards it the only way to find out. Thanks.

    Satellite & Homecare LTD are one of the best independant companys out there, i have done my homework on them with Trading standards and with my own warrenty i have with them, As far as i can see there are three companys out there and thay are

    Satellite & Homecare LTD

    satellite assured and domestic and general. Satellite and home care are by far the cheapest and have the same service as all the rest, if not better. i am happy put it that way.

    Any one want to put them to the test, you woent be disapointed- 0871 641 9910 £5 a month or £50 a year.

    some of you will have seen my comments elsewhere on this forum with regard to Satellite Direct UK , also known as Satcover, Something corporation, one4group, millenium club among others. That company as you well know by now has ceased trading and closed down, they were the biggest of the independant warranty companies out there. There are around 30 companies that I,ve heard of all doing the same thing, I would say to all of you. Be Carefull. A lot of you are complaining about being conned by these firms, Well I hate to say it but a lot of you are your own worst enemies, I worked for sat d for 3 years and was amazed at just how gullible some people are, Only too eager to give bank details, Not listening to whats said to them and failing to ask the right questions, thats how these companies make their money. some offer a good service, others dont, be careful what you agree to. I,ve listened to many calls where the customer swore blind they never agred to this etc only to play the call back and hear them quite happily doing so. My advice is this. Never give your bank details over the phone. Ask for written details beffore you agree to anything, Read the small print, Try and find out as much as you can about the company calling you. Ask for a name and a phone number. If they cant or wont give it, dont touch them, One thing you can also do is ask for the number early in the conversation (in case they get cut off !) and while theyre talking to you call that number from another phone, that way you can see if its genuine and not a fob off, If the call fails to connect, you know its a scam.above all Just be carefull, As I said, a lot of you are victims of your own stupidity and now your angry with yourselves because of it.I,m glad to say I was made redundant from Sat d when they closed down, However Ive since learnt that Dave Reynolds has set up another company in burgess hill, sussex. You have been warned.

    got aphone call from DSWC LTD during august 2009 saying my sky warrenty was running out and would i like to renew it of course i said yes as i have 3 sky boxes. They told me it would be 14.99 for all three boxes a month by direct debit, at the time i needed to replace two remote controls so i asked while i was on the phone and was told i could ring back when the first payment came out not thinking that we were already paying sky cover which my daughter had arranged. So a week later i phoned them back asking about the remotes and was told they would be sent but they needed a10 pound deposit on a card so stupidly i gave them my details. The remotes were sent to me and i had to send back the old remotes to get my deposit back which i did. I happened to check one of my bank statements and noticed that they have been taking 14.99 three times a month for the last three months i contacted my bank stright away after my daughter checked on this web site and cancled the direct debit the bank are looking into this as they said it does not sound right. They gave me a number at the bank to ring 01515475251 my daughter rang and was verbaly abused over the phone basically saying it was my own fault i agreed the contract over the phone and had used their services by getting new remotes. She also admittied it was their fault that they took 3 payments but it would not be refunded because i used the service. To date i have paid 150.00 which i doubt i will see again so be warned always check before you buy.

      I have had a similar experience today. Just noticed that the direct debit that I cancelled in January had been paid out again in April and again today. I have sopken to my bank and they have cancelled the direct debit and put a block on their originator number so that they cannot at any time in the future access my account today. They also gave me the phone number of 01515475251. However when I called there the gentleman that answered apologised said that the bank was giving out the wrong number and the one that I should call was identical except for the last digit which was a zero. When I called it rang out to a recorded message saying that it was not possible to take the call and you could not leave a message and to phone back later.

      NEVER EVER EVER use this company they are totally bogus….. the address given by the bank was Unit 5, Capitol Trading Park, Kirby Bank Road, Liverpool, L33 7SY

    Me too! Call [from SkyWarrantyCare] tonight. Told me only £6 a month for a warranty. I said\ ah £72 a year then, not interested, thanks….reply “Whatever….tosser”! Maybe I can be, but not for that silly cow to call me such. Sky, are you watching? Was that one of yours?

    Satellite and Homecare are deceitful creeps that also got me to agree to a contract with them by saying they were affiliated with Sky. They told me my payments would decrease by £7/month. They said that they needed to confirm my bank details, and when I asked them why, since they already had them, they said it was because they wanted to make sure nothing had changed. This is from the company called Satellite & Homecare, not Satcom or any of these others. I have called my bank and blocked any payments to them. Getting contracts in this deceitful way makes them very suspect IMHO.

      Hi, Satellite & homecare are good for me, I have been with them for 3 years and if i need help i can just ring.
      8 months ago i had no picture on my sky and i rang and had an engineer the next day. What do you want for £5 per month. Brilliant service. 0871-641-9910

      If you do your research by contacting trading standards as i did, This company is actually a good company.
      There are alot of bad ones but this is the one i am with and as far as i can see i have had no problem.
      you can allways get through and speak to a person not a computer.

    i have been conned by the same peope. they get 18 pound a month. my bank says they cant do anything cos it was done with my debit card. is there any way we can get it stopped.

      I think £18 will be a quarterly payment as i have a simalar payment coming from my bank, mine is sky+ if you have it monthly you need to contact them and get it changed. simple.

      I had the same problem, and the only way is to cancel your card that they use for payment with your Bank and get a new one. The only other people that can cancel the payments being taken are the Company. Are they really likely to do it. I have received a few calls now from this Company saying I still owe them money…How can I owe money for a service I dont have? If you managed to speak to someone on the phone take details of name of person (including surname) and make a note of exact time and date and details of discussion.Hope that helps.

        if you contact trading standards as i did you will realize
        they are a good reputable company.

        And they do give first class service.

        Do your home work, and stop confusing the good company’s with the bad ones.

        They are not all bad.

    im paying satellite and homecare £25 a quarter but even though it is cheap(ish) the service i am getting from them is almost no existent.our hd box is failing and we will be needing a replacement.i haVve now called them 4 times in the last 5 days and am yet to get an engineer call back
    they have til 8pm tomorrow(wednesday) before i take steps to cancel my payments
