Wimmerfield Crescent Garden Party
August 4th, 2006, by Rich.

Having converted my Grandparents stash of cine film to a digital format earlier in the year I’ve at last found a few minutes to extract something of general interest (as opposed to the family-interest stuff), so here it is.
A Garden Party (or maybe it’s a tea party, or a coffee morning); I can’t say I’m sure of the precise definition, but there’s definitely sunshine, drinks, cake and several of the “old ladies” that I remember living in Wimmerfield Crescent when I was young (and I was born several years after this footage was ‘in the can’).
I’m assuming for now that this was filmed in the late 1960’s but it might be a bit earlier than that, maybe early 60’s, if so, the kids playing in the garden are probably in their mid 40’s by now (though probably not looking a day over 21 due to the forgiving seaside air). I’m sure mum will be able to identify things that put a fairly exact date on it.

Probably June 20th 1967.
Your Nan & I shared a birthday and this was one of the few times I was at home, having been away at college, then working in London & Switzerland
I’m the one in the blue dress. My Mum, wearing a pale pink dress, (with hair ‘up’) appears standing later on
Also in there are Enid Clarke, Paddy May, Marion Halsey, June Petherbridge, Phil Spencer etc etc
They were Mum’s ‘Whist Girls’, who played whist on Friday nights, rotating the venue between them all, for over thirty years.

….and i think the little girl with specs and a white bow in her hair was called Barbara… but then again, that might have been her mother’s name? her mother is also sitting at the table.
The blue dress with white earrings, sitting down was Elsie Smith, but sadly, she & her husband Eira, and their son Geof all died some years ago

Perhaps the chap seen running through the pic later on may have been Warren Turner, son of Joyce & Jack Turner? Before they moved elsewhere, they lived in the last house before the alley way down to Fairy Grove, perhps no 41 Wimmewfield Cres?
Sorry, but the little grey cells only work for a few minutes at a time these days!

Just spotted Joyce Merriman too, I think, Marion Halsey’s sister?

Whilst searching the ‘net’ for a music arranger I came across your site.
I am originally from the Mount Pleasant area of Swansea and have three brothers living there.
My partner is from the Glanmor area and I will be bookmarking your site for her to see.

My sister, now living in Canada, came across your site and what a treat. I recognised some of the women but the little girl in the pink dress is Jackie Richards who lived in Fairy Grove. Her mum Joan is indeed sitting at the table.

Oh yes….Of course, Joan and her daughter Jackie…. I told you the grey cells are not what they were! Sorry to both of them!

We have just looked at the vide and reconoized many faces from Fairy Grove and Wimmerfield Cresent. One was Joy Aubrey 46 Fairy Grove. Jackie Richards was about six years old.
